Tex's Tree Farm

By Gemma Cleanslate

It is time to pick out that special Christmas tree for your home. One of the fun places to visit especially if you are bringing the family along to chop your own is Tex’s Tree Farm.

Here you find so many carefully grown trees to choose from. Tex has had this farm for many years. I love visiting there. I have watched families pick out trees , choose décor , and then visit Santa.

Grab your axe and go choose that special tree just for you and chop it down. Follow the directions for that. Tex has amazing texture changers available for an amazing price. Take a look at the decors you would like . There is a great variety. If you are feeling a bit lazy get the whole decorated tree. The notecard will explain it all. You will be able to control the number of prims to fit your needs.

After you wander around the farm and visit Santa it is time to go up on the hill and visit one of the loveliest shops in SL to look for décor or gifts.

”HO HO HO Gemma, Welcome to Under The Tree Christmas Shop. Best selection of Christmas gifts and deco items in all of SL. Please make sure you take all items after purchase.”

Lots of toys for the kids as well as drivable toys are there .

The next room has delicious looking food for your table. Be sure to take what you buy. It is a gotcha area. Another room is filled with furniture, tables , little Santas , many decorations that will grace your home.

At the other end of the building there is a room filled with more furniture, wall hangings and more trees to choose. The room is filled with décor for every room in the house. It is a great place to shop for that reason. Upstairs are so many gacha machines where you can choose the number of the item you want to purchase. The gachas contain clothing, accessories , decorations, and much more. Be sure to check them out. While you are walking around you might receive a gift. I got a cute little Santa hat.

When you leave the store take a right turn and walk up the hill to the barn where there are cute animated animals for sale . A nice addition to the gifts for the kids under the tree. Here is the entrance to the tree farm. I good place to start.

Land Of Sleeping Giants

By Gemma Cleanslate

If you are looking for a diversion from shopping and holiday decorations have an adventure for the day take a ride over to Land Of Sleeping Giants.

The installation is that of AmandaT Tamatzui. She is a well known artist with many installations in the past and art works seen in exhibits and her own galleries.

The island is full of engaging scenes and interactive fun. But right nearby is a train station that will take you all around the island and up the mountain on tours. Don’t miss that!. Inside the station are tickets for the train and the Cable Car. While you are there you can rezz a boat to take a tour around the island on water too. Amanda had help from many people to do this installation . You can see all the helpers at the station also.

“Kia Ora Tātou, This is my love project, dedicated to my new homeland of New Zealand also known as 'land of the long white cloud' Sleeping Giants was born, inspired by Te Mata Peak's Sleeping Giant in Hawkes Bay, NZ. TY Rascal for donating this region.“ is Amanda’s description of her work. RL inspirations are always good , especially if one can never get there in person. The Sleeping Giants are up on the mountain facing out to the world. To get a great look cam out.

Across from the station there is an elegantly arranged garden containing diverse lovely flowers and plants with bunnies and other animals scattering around on the ground. Down below you can see many of Amanda’s colorful art set out . Do not miss the Butterfly cave . Amanda has activities going on . I was able to attend a dance party on the volcano (which she covered with water ) It was fun! There is a Riddle hunt going on if you can make time. Look for pages as you wander . Some gifts are there too. If you find all 8 pages you will get a big prize. You will see the info on a poster at the station.

After my tours and walking about I was enticed to stop into the Cafe too inviting to miss! Great Menu on the wall and Lemon tea was my choice. I took it outside to sit in the New Zealand air. Visit while you can. Accept the experience. Vixen Point

The installation will be there until January

After the party I went over to the Christmas Expo for the American Cancer Society where Patch Linden had gathered a hoard of Moles for picture taking time. I managed to be able to take a few photos while crashing out in between .

When I arrived most of the Moles and visitors were mostly naked with backwards faces lol. Quartz was in good shape so I took one photo of him.

Finally I was able to get to sit with Patch and get a good photo and make a donation to the cause before I crashed out again. Squeaky tried to help but he was having rezzing issues also . It was all great fun. I might use this for my Christmas card.

The Swiftwater City RP Community

By Bixyl Shuftan,

I was recently contacted by Draven Malakai Hopshire (Nightingale Foxpaws) about a new urban area and it's community: Swiftwater City.

I went over, and I navigated the exits to get out of the entry building, The Swiftwater Convention Center. Looking around, the scenery was interesting. I quickly met up with Draven and someone else part of the community, Lea Tankthrust (LeaRodriguez Resident). After greetings, I asked Draven how long the community had been around. "We reopened," he told me, "originally opened our doors on the 24th of October." I asked if the place had a particular theme. He told me, "Well. Swiftwater City is a vibrant urban roleplay community in Second Life that blends the excitement of city living with immersive storytelling. The sim is designed to feel like a bustling, modern metropolis, offering endless possibilities for players to carve out their own unique stories in a dynamic environment.

"The city features diverse neighborhoods, from upscale districts to gritty backstreets, reflecting the many layers of urban life. Its theme revolves around realism, but with the freedom to explore creative and dramatic scenarios. The city thrives on its blend of professional roleplay opportunities and casual interactions, making it a hub for everyone from seasoned roleplayers to newcomers.

"Key thematic elements include: Law and Order: A fully functioning police department and justice system, creating opportunities for crime dramas, detective stories, and legal roleplay. Emergency Services: Firefighters, paramedics, and rescue teams play a crucial role in responding to city emergencies, providing action-packed scenarios. Community Life: Local businesses, public events, and casual hangouts foster a sense of community, encouraging social interaction and personal storytelling. Nuclear Research Facility: Swiftwater City is home to a cutting-edge nuclear research facility, opening doors to intriguing narratives involving science, innovation, and potential intrigue or disaster scenarios. Edge of the Unknown: Beneath the surface of everyday life, mysteries and secrets await, encouraging players to delve into darker or more thrilling narratives.

"Swiftwater City is a canvas for creativity, offering the perfect backdrop for characters from all walks of life to connect, grow, and thrive in an engaging urban setting."

I then asked where the idea for the RP came from. Draven answered, "In my time here on Second Life, I have been roleplaying at many roleplay communities which have sadly since closed there doors. So I decided to open my own community up." I asked how many people were in the community so far. He told me, "We have about 17 members in our main roleplay group so far. ... three have estate manager roles  One is founder which is me. One is the co-founder. One is the HCI Director." I asked about the other roles, and was told, "Some are police, one is a gas station owner, one is my DoPW engineer."

He then pointed to Lea, "Lea here is the chief of my Fire Dept and one of my estate managers." I then asked how many fires and medical emergencies there'd been so far. She answered, "Theres a new emergency every few days last one was a zombie outbreak." I asked about it, notably "How does a fire department contain a zombie outbreak?" Lea answered, "There is hazmat division in FD we just clean up the green stuff."

Asking how the outbreak happened, I was told, "The T-vVirus was released. But dont worry the facility is safe and back under our control. The tunnels are still blocked off from wreckage of the truck responsible for the release of the T-virus. Not sure if you saw the hazmat cordon down there?" She asked me to follow to a place, "That there is the entrance to the research facility. It is safe to enter and look around the place if you would like to." So where did the virus come from? "Umbrella Corporation," I was told, "They were responsible for crashing tankers in the tunnel."

Draven would tell me, "We are also in the process of setting up rolepay so at least it will feel like the residents are making a living." I notice Lea's tag and asked what Ultor was. She answered, "Ultor is in charge of fire department its one of the divisions of a conglomerate company that does alot of different stuff." So it was a potential plot device for future adventures.

As we were talking, someone from the Second Life Coast Guard dropped in. She was curious about the place, and we struck up a conversation that lasted for a little while, her asking for more information and expressing interest in joining, before I needed to leave. So Swiftwater is attracting people as we speak, and there may be more residents there than the 17 I had been told.

Looking around, there was much in the two sims of the city.  There were numerous tall buildings, offices and apartments. There was a gas station. There was also a fire station, though with a spiral staircase instead of a sliding pole. There was a medical center and a bank (at the time, with a crime scene marker). I was told the police station was located nearby at HCI - Hitcorp International. There was an industrial center where shipping containers were loaded and unloaded. There was a bank. For those who like fishing, I saw a 7Seas fishing game. And there were plenty of roads to drive on, including some steep climbs and drops.

The Swiftwater Research Center is a large facility, built into a stone fort and mountaintop, though players in-character will need clearance to get to it. Much of it I hadn't seen, though there are rumors of a particle accelerator underground, and even a secret spaceship under construction.

But those are rumors.

There are some places still under construction, so don't be surprised to see a little wood paneling. But this is still an active community with things going on.

The community's public entrance is at: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Beast%20Estate/107/185/33 . It also has it's own Discord channel, Swiftwater City.

Dark Harvest

By Gemma Cleanslate

“A close-knit town and countryside, is now cloaked in unease. With strange sightings and eerie sounds have left the community on edge. The townsfolk fear that something dark has awakened and it's hungry.” Scary sounding isn’t it. That was the feeling I had when I visited Dark Harvest and read the description.

A small town contains buildings , a magic shop, an authentic cauldron shop. Mrs. Lovett’s meatpies shop.. Hmmm , that name sounds familiar. I think I will skip it. I dropped into the Voodoo shop but bought nothing and Carnaby Street shop did not appeal to me as I gazed through the window at the horrors behind the fashionable window décor. Several buildings had locked doors so I moved on.

At the end of the street I found a leafy path leading to the country outside town. A coffin maker has a shop there and I am sure he has customers. The path is haunted by disappearing ghosts. I know someone must live here but found no occupants as I wandered into the barn. There is a fresh crop ready in the field to be harvested and a many horses to be fed, as well as many chickens. I passed a huge barbecue with tables set for a feast meats ready to eat. Just past that I found a skeleton riding a skeleton horse that was not reassuring. Farther on ghostly wolves roamed the top of the hill.

The lighthouse at the top of the hill glowed red and bats flew wildly around . I turned at that point and looked down at the pond below and the houses that stood empty wondering where were the people who cared for this whole place. I ran into two friends who were exploring the region also and enjoying my favorite scene. The greatest collection of Pumpkins that I have seen anywhere including one evil pumpkin who talked constantly…

“Evil Jack-O-Lantern by C3: I have a bone to pick with you. It's your femur.

Evil Jack-O-Lantern by C3: Om! Nom! Nom!

Evil Jack-O-Lantern by C3: My doctor told me I need to get in shape. I told him that round is a shape.

Evil Jack-O-Lantern by C3: I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy!

Evil Jack-O-Lantern by C3: I may be gutless, but so are you!

Evil Jack-O-Lantern by C3: Do you ever have a hunger that only human hands can satisfy? Or is it just me?”

He is hiding somewhere among the pumpkins! Watch out.

Well, I hope citizens are safe and return soon to care for the animals and crops before disaster occurs, unless it has already. Roxy Chronotis (Roxy Christenson) owner of Lyrical Grove , part of this region connected to this has set up this special autumnal and Halloween site for all to visit. It is a great stop to visit before the season is over which is soon… I will return to see what will happen after Halloween.

Shadowfell

 By Gemma Cleanslate

Star of Earendil whispers “Welcome as we travel back to Calas Galadhon's SHADOWFELL
... beyond the dark forest, quarry and the beauty of its gardens and into the swamps …”
These two regions called Mist hold the most spectacular display in SL in my opinion. Every year Ty Tenk  and Truck Meridith of Calas Galadhon work to make this experience something to behold by adding to it. One cannot just pop in and go through all the venues in one day. Repeated visits are a must so plan your time.

When I arrive and check out the entrance area the first thing I do is get my flashlight and read the posts to make sure I am ready for the visit. The nearby boat ride is my first choice just to relax and look at the view of landscape from the river. Iridescent colors and flickering lights that hover add to the relaxation and music enhances the ride. The boat carries two so bring along a companion.

Watch the shore for many creatures that hang around the bank or hover above trying to surprise or shock you .

Who did I see but Micky Mouse ! That was a shock.

The bioluminescence of the swamp foliage is so strikingly gorgeous. One must be sure to use the environmental shared lighting though I did adjust the lighting a bit to get some photos. The boat does drift up into the air iat times to pass over the plants and trees.

After the boat ride I began a trek along the paths leading to the many venues all so varied but all so hauntingly lovely. The music all along the way is so fitting to the total experience. The signage helps direct one . Also look for Journey cloths that are teleports to hidden places . I have to find more when I return to really explore sites. Ty said more will be added as the month progresses.

The Forbidden Forest and the Gardens exploration take time to admire all the plants, trees and flowers in brilliant color. Places to sit and gaze out over the forest give time to really see what is below. The Quarry contains some frightening creatures. Orcs, dragons, demons and other wonders. Thankfully they don’t follow along the walk, just stand threatening passersby.

The Pavilion as usual is set for many events during the month. Check out the schedule.

I have many more visits to make to finally see all that is there . In some areas as you walk there are torches lying on the ground that will direct you to the proper places not to be missed. And in a few places there are teleports set to lift you to unseen places. Though Shadowfell returns every year it seems new every year Maybe there will be a TP hud later so watch for that. Here is the entrance. Perhaps you will see me there again along the paths.

Moochie’s All Hallows

By Gemma Cleanslate

October has arrived with all its colorful or dark fun. Orange is the most outstanding color not only for decorations but the sign of Halloween. Pumpkins abound, no matter where one goes it seems. You will find at least one little pumpkin in place.

I have started visiting some venues that are Halloween personified. My first stop is to a regular for me every year and that is Moochie’s All Hallows.

"Did you know sometimes it frightens me

when you say my name and I can't see you

will you ever learn to materialize before you speak…"

The greeter says, “Welcome to All Hallows! Please respect the no nudity policy and have fun exploring. There are nooks and crannies to be found throughout, if you are willing to step into the darkness…”

Take the advice. If you bring a sweetie or a friend try the couples walk rezzer and take the step into darkness together. Grab a notecard before you leave that will guide you on your way to some of the sites. Oh, don’t forget to get the postcards from Moochie too!

Follow the various paths and see the sights. Cressida Wretched was serving Corn Dogs that were advertised as sometimes delicious so I skipped that and settled for a large cider given to me my Henrietta Hogwort that seemed a little safer.

There are many nooks to sit and relax just enjoying the shimmering lights in the darkness of the night. Listen to the spooky Halloween tunes like "I’m a Vampire Baby." Don’t miss the Theatrer on the Hill where there are classic horror films of the past showing or the “Campfire Stories' at All Hallows this year. A dedicated little parcel right at the end of the pumpkin patch will play old time radio tales 24/7 from now right through until the end of October”. Try to relax and enjoy (laughing out loud).

Before I forget there are new Healthinfo Island for October you may like to  visit. They are appropriate for the season. Objectophilia is a new one on me but check it out above the site on Dying.

Nearby there is a whole section on Microplastics which I find is scarier than any Halloween  creature! Learn about it!  There is so much more on the Virtual Ability island.. take a walk.

The PBC's Voting Registration And Fall Arrives at Yosemite

By Gemma Cleanslate

The Premier Business Center is hosting a voting educational event through mid October. This is to prepare US citizens to register to vote in the November election and how it all works. I stopped over to check out the venue and there is loads of information available. All citizens are invited to come and get the free information and ask questions if you need.

Events are taking place also on various evenings. JardinAlexis says all are welcome to come participate regardless of intended affiliation of party or independent status. Better hurry over though in some states registration deadlines are coming fast!! Check out the map on the wall and click on the stars . look around at various posters and get more information.

I also took a tour over at Yosemite this weekend to check out the autumn arrival. The park looks lovely with the gold and yellows in the trees and grasses. It is a wonderful place to take a horseback ride, or just walk the many trails on the property.

The link below will put you inside the Visitors Center . Gifts on the wall! I hope you grab the great winter outfit on the wall in the Center! Pick up the explorers hud to help you get around when looking for a certain destination.

I decided to take a walk on the trails and ran into a couple of cub bears wandering about.

I finally saw the mama coming my way and moved on fast! This is a great place to bring friends or family for a week or even for just the weekend. The prices are right . Enjoy horseback riding and other activities on the region anytime.

I had not seen the new wedding and other event Chapel near the Center but got a good look at it . All group members are invited to use it for ceremonies . It seats 48 ! It is also a charming place to just sit and meditate. You can contact Jadin if you have questions.

Some of the campers have put out pumpkins and other fall décor on their camp site. Try the wall climbing on the side of the Visitor Center after you pick up the free items and information inside. There is a wonderful group however and Jaden Emerald is overly generous with gifts at random times . Casual visitors are welcome however so drop over and use the public facilities. There are often Rangers around to help also.
