Sneak Peak at the Relay Track

The sims of the Relay Walk this weekend are closed to most until the event begins Saturday. But Second Life Newser was allowed an early peek at the builds. Some were still under construction. Others were complete or nearly so.

An Egyptian pyramid build just north of the Redheads.

Inside were some details, and a few things not normally expected.

Team Steelhead Salmons was still working on theirs. Here's a few of the team, including Fuzzball Ortega on left.

A cat flying a salmon? Guess one shouldn't be too surprised to see this, considering this is the team that brought you "The Hair."

Yo ho ho.

Team Circle of Life had a picturesque fairyland with energy fields.

The Efl circle camp, almost complete.

The Knights of Avalon build.

 The Dazzlers for Life build.

The Giant Snail Races exhibit. Note the "2" falling from the clock as the time changes to 1:03.

Free snail avatars (miniature giant snails?) just behind these images of RacerX Gullwing and his team.

The Dr. Who Fans build, the guys who come to mind with this season's theme, "Time for a Cure."

The campsite of Team Open Hearts, whose build has the letters "What Would You Do If You Had More Time" next to the track, and has pictures of various people's "bucket list" wishes (things you want to do before you "kick the bucket.")

The Green Lantern Corp's build.

Last but not least for this article, New Babbage's towering build.

These of course are just a few of the exhibits of the Relay Track. The Track opens to all on Saturday for the Relay walk, and will stay up for a few days afterwards.

For previous exhibits, check back in the SL Newser archives, such as last year's Winter Season builds, including one of it's most beautiful, The Snowglobe.

More Scenes from the 2011 RFL Track

I took quite a few pictures of the 2001 Relay track. Here's some of the rest that didn't get posted earlier.

Jaycatt Nico of the "Jaycatt & Frogg" musical team stops by the Redhead camp

Blogger DrFran Babcock taking a break.

Redhead Wet Squirrel walking down the track. The sparkles are from a wrist device that activates when she's chatting.

A scene during the International Lap, with Redhead Sabine Schmidt, or "Sabby" as we call her to better tell her apart from team leader Sabine McGettigan, chatting with Treminari Huet and Elphias Kojishi.

A Britisher, Sabby may wonder why Treminari chose to wear her display of patriotism instead of flying it.

The luminaries were color-coded to show how much was donated. Most were blue, meaning a hundred Lindens were dropped in them. Purple meant someone deposited 10,000 L.

The lady captain of one team offered to get "pumped up for Life," by donning a more muscular look for a week if 10,000 were raised. It was, and she did.

Team Caledon's beach area. Steampunk gadgeteers having a day on the beach.

A contribution I made for "Halfpipe," a friend who wanted to make the Relay, but her computer couldn't handle the power needed for Second Life

The Star Trek build

The flowers at the Trek place would turn to face you. Fortunately, I didn't get shot at by spores.

The "Circle of Life" build, an elven forest

These elves weren't too shy, inviting visitors to take an inner-tube ride

An Egyptian pyramid in the northeast corner of the track

I read the place was one of the locations for a scavenger hunt. Looks like someone made off with the mummy.

Two of the Gorean team at the closing ceremonies. Although the Goreans have an iffy reputation, they did raise a lot of Lindens.

Scenes from the 2011 RFL Track

I took dozens of pictures of the Relay Track this year, too many for the main article. So here are some of the others.

Two tinies at the opening ceremonies.

Meeting up with others of the Passionate Redheads team, Nydia Tungsten (as bunnygirl), Lomgren Smalls, and Treminari Huet.

And after the opening ceremonies, we headed back to our camp.

And here's Rita, the Sunweaver Chieftess, and a major player in the Redheads. Earlier this summer, Rita raised 79,000L in a "Bid me Human" event. Originally having to serve over two months, Daaneth and Sabine let her off the hook, for which she was feeling very charitable and generous.

RABID PURPLE BUNNY IS BACK! - Redheads! RITA IS BACK!!!!!! I have been PARDONED! Daan and Sabine have removed weight upon my shoulders, that was keeping me a HUMAN! HAIRLESS APE! So to those of you who paid to make me human, I am BACK! Remember REVENGE IS A DISH BEST SERVED COLD! (Laughing Out Loud!) We raised a lot of Lindens off my pelt, something like $76,000L. So it was worth it.

Or maybe, our rents are going up.

The deer were so tame, you could walk up to them.

In memory of Dusk Griswold's mother.

There was a balloon to ride over the camp

During the Survivors lap, the teack was quite crowded.

Dusk and Skylark cheer on the survivors and caregivers

An old friend of Second Life Newser, Breezes Babi. Behind her, Fuzzball Ortega can be seen walking down the track in his big hair.

And here's Bree's real-life daughter Glitter Xentalt

Our neighbors across the track.

Getting on the track ourselves, we made a few stops at stations to pick up things.

Sims being closed to more relayers were a fairly common sight with all the lag

And on occasion, I would find myself alone, or almost alone.

One of the Autumn regions in the southeast

Oops, I crashed.

Logging back on, found myself next to the rest stop sponsored in Artistic Fimicloud's memory, in the northwest.

Did someone get through "The Great Firewall of China?"
