Sneak Peek at the RFL Track

The Relay For Life Weekend is almost here, and the buiders have been busy at work across the forty-plus sims. I was able to get an early look at the track, and take a few pictures.

The completed "Sunbeamers" plot at RFL Research, which was written about a couple days ago when mostly complete. Now, the new team's flag has been added, and proudly flies over the exhibit.

Read more about the Sunbeamer plot (here).

Still in RFL Research, at the Breedables plot, with one of the critters playing about before curling up for a nap.

Just south of the Sunbeamers was "Team Lag's" build, a 50's bowling alley.

Inside, one can do a game of bowling, and stop at the soda joint for ice cream.

To the north was the designer sim RFL Screening, by Photon Pink.

The space had been empty just a couple days earlier. The builders worked fast. As I saw a couple avatars flying around, they might not have been finished.

RFL Spirt was also a designer sim, a forest with lots of lanterns, by Lemondrop.

Well, not just lanterns, but also some noodle bowls.

One corner of the sim had a marina by "Sail For Life." There, one can bid on a boat for charity.

Or you can take one out into the RFL Reflections water sim.

And where there's water, there's sometimes a lighthouse.

In RFL Strength was the Knights of Avalon plot.

The "Rocky Beer Brigade" plot. The holographic sign says, "Sanctuary Rock proudly presents The Track Into The Future to live long and free of cancer."

The Goreans For Life plot. Somewhat infamous for their community's mature roleplays, the team consistantly ranks among the top fundraisers every year. Their build is made of amusement park rides and wooden ships.

The "Teletus Titans for a Cure" build, the fourth plot in RFL Strength.

A quick trip to the RFL Hope sim in the southeast corner of the track revealed this gearwork build.

To the north in RFL Hero was this exhibit, "Knowledge is the Key."

That's it for now with the Relay plots. If you want to see more, the sims will be open to all members of the Relay For Life Volunteers group tomorrow at 2PM SL time. And after the Opening Ceremonies tomorrow at 10AM, the sims will be open to all for the Relay Walk.

Sneak Peak at the Relay Track

The sims of the Relay Walk this weekend are closed to most until the event begins Saturday. But Second Life Newser was allowed an early peek at the builds. Some were still under construction. Others were complete or nearly so.

An Egyptian pyramid build just north of the Redheads.

Inside were some details, and a few things not normally expected.

Team Steelhead Salmons was still working on theirs. Here's a few of the team, including Fuzzball Ortega on left.

A cat flying a salmon? Guess one shouldn't be too surprised to see this, considering this is the team that brought you "The Hair."

Yo ho ho.

Team Circle of Life had a picturesque fairyland with energy fields.

The Efl circle camp, almost complete.

The Knights of Avalon build.

 The Dazzlers for Life build.

The Giant Snail Races exhibit. Note the "2" falling from the clock as the time changes to 1:03.

Free snail avatars (miniature giant snails?) just behind these images of RacerX Gullwing and his team.

The Dr. Who Fans build, the guys who come to mind with this season's theme, "Time for a Cure."

The campsite of Team Open Hearts, whose build has the letters "What Would You Do If You Had More Time" next to the track, and has pictures of various people's "bucket list" wishes (things you want to do before you "kick the bucket.")

The Green Lantern Corp's build.

Last but not least for this article, New Babbage's towering build.

These of course are just a few of the exhibits of the Relay Track. The Track opens to all on Saturday for the Relay walk, and will stay up for a few days afterwards.

For previous exhibits, check back in the SL Newser archives, such as last year's Winter Season builds, including one of it's most beautiful, The Snowglobe.

Preview: Some Scenes in the RFL Walk

The night before The Walk, I had a chance to look at a few of the sights on the track.

The beginning of the RFL track in the Relay for Life sim, or is it?

Actually, the track doesn't have a true begining. This location in the Relay for Life sim, has info on the Relay for Life, and The Walk. A stall here will teleport you to a random location on the track. In the first few years, there was a true start and finish line, but with people porting there all at once, the lag was simply too much.

One can also get a "walk and talk" backpack to follow others on the track, and a pedometer.

Some Special Events were planned for the four sims RFL Wish, Unity, Voulenteer, and Treatment, set up in a square on the west side of the track, leaning east. In the middle of those was a castle, where I found this sign showing where some of the shops, rides, and events were.

The Teams R Us Flea Market

Special RFL Dalek Avatars for sale, proceeds going to "exterminate" cancer.

Nearby is a roller coaster ride.

Looks like RacerX Gullwing plans on holding some snail races here.

For those whom want an olympic challenge, a sled track, with both a bobsled for teams, and a luge single person sled.

Methinks I need more practice. Ohhhh, that hurt.

The Snail Racing camp, with a freebie snow snail avie

Approaching the New Babbage area, there was the Dr Who camp.
When it comes to cancer, "Exterminate, Exterminate!"

More to come
