WonderlandZ

By Gemma Cleanslate

Sorry , I have been AOL(away on leave), sort of. I moved in real-life and had no internet most of the time. And the internet I could connect to was spotty. I even missed my duties as Greeter at the SL21B most of the time. Now I am back and ready to explore!

My friend RainDaze along with her partner Sanka (JaylenGA Resident) have created a magnificent region filled with memories from childhood with all the creatures of fables and fairytales we have stored away in our minds.

It is called WonderlandZ and is on the Shine of Love. That is an appropriate name for the wonder you will experience.

When I landed I was met by Tweedledee and Tweedledum standing by a tall house and Mockturtle peering out the window. In the distance I saw Alice talking with a Caterpillar. The Cheshire cat watched from above. To my surprise right next door I spotted a tree house that turned out to be Barbie’s home! I wondered where she lived. And near the beach was the Heart’s Queen and of course the white rabbit.

The entrance area offers a notecard of information and a teleport door to get you to so many interesting places if you choose. I enjoyed walking the paths and seeing the foliage along the way and the mushrooms that bow and smile.. There is a tall gate that says “Follow the White Rabbit” guarded by two Card Soldiers and so I did.

It was fun to come upon places I recognized as favorite memories, Cinderella’s home was the first stop. Her coach was there along with one slipper lying on the floor. Following that stop I walked on to the Fun House and entered a whole area of fun and games. Have fun in there ! Try that bouncy house.

Nearby is an Art Gallery that I would say is a work in progress since Raini will be adding photos taken by visitors and more. I believe it is called the Lunatic Asylum .There are three floors of art pieces room for more. and also... Wellness? You decide.

I passed a funeral pyre with a closed casket and after peeking inside I think the Prince did not get here in time. The three little pigs also have a really damaged home. There is so much more to see. I want you all to go find all the little nooks with surprises and other buildings and explore. See some pictures below and have a wonderful time!

The Chamber

By Fritter Enzyme

The Chamber is one of the real treasures to find in Second Life.  It is wonderful to see, and give literature a place in a virtual world to live.  What a hallucinogenic thing reading is. You stare at paper for hours and you see worlds that don’t exist and beings you get to know firsthand.  At the Chamber you get notecards with the emphasis on poetry and short stories.  This includes works by residents in Second Life.

There are many great places to hang out and read.  Three levels, including the Green House, which the owner may have the teleporter shut off for sometimes. The other two levels house some beautiful magical places to read your short stories.  Different authors have bookshelves you click on to get a menu and pick your story.  The landing point is an "Alice in Wonderland" setting, complete with tea cup chandelier and toadstools to sit on.  Click the table to sit and change your chairs and animations.

Four reading rooms radiate off a creative central hub.  Going counter clockwise you will find one with a constant thunderstorm.  Umbrella holder is to your right as you enter.  Be sure to move close to the bookshelves, as the rain will be between you and them causing you not to get notecards.  Pick a card and have a seat in the boat.  Fifteen positions for singles.  Couples animations too.  The rooms are themed to the literature offered in them.  Even a creepy one for Edgar Allen Poe, Superstitions, Horror and Demonology.  Water does seem to be most everywhere.  Click on things to find what they do, many are scripted for you.

Leo Tolstoy’s works have a room all to themselves of urban decay, and a head on a pole.  Each of the lower rooms house only one writers works, save the ones done my Second Life residents.  There is a Mahjong game you can really play, so bring a friend to spend some great time with.  The furniture has many animations for couples or singles, and props for your avatar to use while you hang out and meet other book lovers.  It is quite a wonderfully made place to which photography is natural.  It is as magical as reading it self surely is.

Storm Septimus is its creator and owner.  You are welcome to all floors most of the time.  If you are homeless and join the group, this could be your home sweet home.  Join and set home here.  So read some poems and short stories, better yet, write your own works and bring them into the Chamber to submit them for others to see.  The tip jar is the white cat under the desk, remember to support the places you love in Second Life.  Someone is always paying for what you see and enjoy.  Every little bit adds up.

Storytelling at Rawhide Native

By Grease Coakes

Due to real life work having the same schedule every week for a long time I wasn't able to see DJ Aurora for a while. But another event I missed out on was Heartspeaker's storytelling at Spirit Nations every Thursday (article). I gave it a shot but Mary said no I need you on Thursday for the truck. Mary is a nice lady, but I know better than to push my luck. Luckily on my day off on Wednesday Heartspeaker told a story today so I was able to say hi to my friend and hear another of his stories.

Spirit Nations the sim itself shut down however Heartspeaker said on voice that the Spirit of Spirit Nations lives on at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Tender%20Heart/67/65/22

Before Heartspeaker told the story of lightning bolt he made small talk with Two Medicines and myself. He commented the book he bought which had the Lightning Bolt story he was telling today. Raimi a friend of mine accepted an invitation to join me in listening to Heart's story. The day I wrote this article and heard Heart's story was July 9th and Heart said his birthday was the previous day July the 8th I wished him a happy birthday. Heartspeaker said the hat I wear made by Hawkin Starsider was the cat's meow for me or the fox's yip. Hawkin Starsider created the hat and I bought it years ago at the original spirit nations sim. As I was talking with Two Medicines and Heartspeaker the effects of the sim were pretty to look at as I saw dandelion seeds floats towards me on my screen.

Lighting bolt went to see his teacher Goose Flying as Goose Flying was telling of an event in the future. He sent Lightning Bolt to see Iron Blanket down the mountain on the Wyoming side of the river.

Lightning Bolt had a vision of the goddess and traveled on a horse named Big Nose. He saw the universe and mother nature appertaining the beauty of snowflakes and rainbows. Also the beauty of magpies. He asked is life and death interchangeable. And the magpie said yes. Looking for knowledge and answers, he joined the army looking for money and riches.

Heartspeaker told the story at a perfect pace in an elderly voice with vigor. It was fun listening to him add emotion to the voice. When he finished the story, he laughed remembering when one of Heart's elders named Chima a 6th generation Native American told him he would tell stories for a living. When heart was younger He blew off Chima's prediction thinking it was nonsense. Today it's very clear that Heart is an excellent storyteller.

There's more to the Rawhide club than Heartspeaker's story telling there were many sights to see. two medicines the child avatar hung out with me and Raimi chattering away acting like a five and half year old (but in real life she is very much an adult).

Wandering around the sim I saw a pretty waterfall and a picture of a Native American prayer. Also many various animals and sounds effects you would hear in nature of just being outside. I also saw a tall totem pole colored turquoise. There's also a shop to purchase Native American clothes. There's also dance balls of water dances around a pit.

Two Medicines confirmed that Heartspeaker still has his story time at 1pm every Thursday.

As Heartspeaker said the spirit of Spirit Nations is still in Second Life in the Rawhide Club. Native Americans have a presence in Second Life just like in the real world practicing their beliefs and traditions.

If you're curious about Native Americans and their beliefs and the way they speak with spirits feel free to stop by http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Tender%20Heart/67/65/22 and look around. Or if you want a place to relax and hang out to try something new the rawhide club may be right for you.
