"The Clockmaker's Curse" And "Salem 1692"

By Bixyl Shuftan

When it comes to haunted locations in Second Life, every year there are plenty. Go to the Destinations Guide, and there's a long list from some old classics to new creations.  Sadly I don't have time to review many. But I did have enough time this week to look at two, a ride and an area.

One ride I found out about through others was "The Clockmaker's Curse," located at Rainier Summit at (207/17/2602).

Experience a thrilling, immersive Halloween ride adventure! Explore a haunted Victorian town, ride through supernatural scenes, and discover the secrets of Black Hollow. FREE admission, Halloween hunt gifts, spooky attractions & more. Bring your friends!

The area around the ride's entrance looked like the central square of a Victorian-Age town.

To get the full effect, you need to attach the "sound preload HUD" that's available on the way in, as well as setting the viewer to Shared Environment or Midnight. Music should be off, or very low, and Sounds on and clearly audible. The vehicle at the start can seat up to four avatars.

"Travelers... the Clockmaker of Black Hollow stopped time at eleven fifty-nine," you are told, "For one hundred and thirteen years, the town has repeated its final hour. nter his domain. Destroy the Master Clock...before . . . midnight finds you."

The ride has you going through the town of Black Hollow, which is in the grip of The Clockmaker. Your objective is to smash his Master Clock to break his grip on Time and rid the town of it's neverending night.

After you finish the ride, there's a maze you can navigate for up to 12 prizes.

Next, there is "Salem 1692: The Halloween Experience", at Wandering New York (211/129/24).

Salem 1692 is a Halloween destination inspired by the history and dark folklore surrounding the Salem witch trials. Visitors can explore the village, historic homes, woodland paths, fairgrounds, and interactive haunted scenes, with live entertainment taking place throughout the season. The region is completely free to visit, with two optional ticketed experiences available.

Getting there, after a few steps, I was handed a lantern, and a notecard, along with an IM.

KaidenTray Landscapes Bot  (WanderingAssistant Resident): Hi! Nice to meet you (name) ! Welcome to the Salem Halloween Experience. There is a lot to explore on this destination, including history tours, and special events. I have sent you a notecard with FAQ that you may find helpful. Tickets for our history tours are available for purchase to my left at the ticket booth, and rights to join the group and rez are available at the group tenancy machine next to it. I am AI, so I can answer your questions or you can contact voodoo.macabre in world with any questions. Enjoy your stay! Happy Halloween.

Going through the town of Salem, things look a little dead in places.

Outside the town are spooky trails into the woods.

While you behind your computer might not be too scared, your virtual self may be so scared at times, he or she will be on the ground shaking in fear.

There's a Fairgrounds area with games. But the Greedy table is a bit high stakes. You might lose not just the game, but your head. No word if you'll get a horseman's outfit as compensation.

There's also an escape room to get out of within a time limit. Can you break out before the clock runs out?

Plenty of scares here, if you dare to set foot here.

As I was saying, there's plenty of scares, of which the Destination Guide (https://secondlife.com/destinations/haunted) will give you a list, but doesn't show every single one. watch out for more frights.
