Montecito Bay's New Community Pool

By Bixyl Shuftan

It's been some time since I dropped by Montecito Bay for an event. Real life has kept me from the times they have parties. But the other day, I had the chance when they had a special occasion, the opening of their new Community Pool.

by Becky Nosferatu

The pool wasn't just a basin, but had a circular track, developed by Becky Nosferatu. She would announce her project in May.

...this project I have building for months now. Something that has taken blood, sweat and tears from me, which has been one of the biggest nightmare I've ever had building. I see why creators make super simple, boring small pools. ... This will be open for public around mid-July. We still have a few things we have to work with, IE: more floaties for the lazy river as well as the swimmer, which will take an Experience to cause you to swim, and it will be feral friendly.

Finally on July 19, she announced it was ready:

The Community Pool, the FOUR HOUR PARTY to commemorate it's grand opening has begin! Join us for live tunes, chill off in the pool and we hope to see you all here! There will be prizes and gifts, hope to see you here!

The pool was in the Crux sim next to Montecito Bay. Montecito Island, Crux (120, 121, 2001). I passed a front desk, placed for show, and a small avatar shop where I saw some landwalker shark avies.

And into the pool area, a fancy one with an "island" in the middle, and slides and other attractions all around.

I noticed a food stand, though with everyone at the pool, only someone's pet kitty was behind the counter.

Becky was there, sporting a "gummy" shark avatar of her design. After I arrived, I heard her say to someone, "You are HORRIBLY overdressed for a pool." I don't know if she meant me or not.

Playing the tunes was Moffettmephit, aka DJ "Magic" Moff. He would play some beach music, and some tunes appropriate for a party around a pool, "Walk, Don't Run."

With all the sharks, nobody requested the "Jaws" theme.

I would hear Becky say, "In case you guys missed it, the swimmer is active! Just walk over to the sign by the entrance that says 'Wanna swim' then just make your AOs are turned off and jump in!" But when I looked, a pool noodle fight had broken out, "One of you turds is about to get smacked in the mouth!"

And Emmy found herself the target of a vicious shark attack.

There were some four-footed or feral avies. Some were dancing (which can't really be shown on still pictures).

One lady just avoided the bustle in the main area and soaked in a smaller side pool.

"If you wanna just chill here and lay down you're welcome." And some would just enjoy Becky's pool ride, hopping in and coasting along.

 "Now we're sharkin' it up."

 It was good chaotic fun.

Five Places in SL To Explore With Your Friends

By Cyfir (Cyfiremmerich)

So you and your friends are bored? Looking for something to do in Second Life? Just want to run around and have a good time? Well, I have the article for you! Below are five places that you and your friends should check out in no particular order.

----

Montecito Bay

Full Disclosure: Montecito Bay is a sponsor of the Second Life Newser, but it really is a great place to go with friends. Montecito Bay in some ways reminds me of the city of Fox Haven before it shut down. There’s plenty to do and plenty to explore. There are little fun easter eggs laying around if you can find them, a ferris wheel, and even segways you can ride around the city or mall. Montecito Bay is also home to a dozen or so clubs. For more information on events there, check out the SL Cubbin’ section of the Second Life Newser.

Ravenlock

After a year absence, the crew at Ravenlock are finally back from their long overdue break. They’re still renovating and getting things ready, so don’t rush there too hard on them, but you can still explore what they have to offer before the grand re-opening. Ravenlock is a Pokemon inspired sim and as far as I know they are the only sim to get the greenlight from Nintendo. Once everything is set back up, you and your friends will be able to catch wild Pokemon on this sim again.

Pixel Hills HD

Want to run around in scenes from your favorite video games? Pixel Hills has you covered. Pixel hills features many areas inspired by classic video games. It’s a fun place to relive your nostalgia without spending a fortune on old consoles and games.

Paris 1900

While the real Notre-Dame de Paris may still be under reconstruction and closed to the public, you can still visit the one in Second Life as well as the rest of Paris, France. All the usual sights are there including the Eiffel Tower which you can actually go to the top of as well as a large ferris wheel.

Palmwood

I’ve written about this place before but it really is a great place to take your friends and explore. There is an arcade, roller ring, and a whole retrowave inspired city to explore as well as live DJ events!

So there are five places you can explore with your friends. If anyone has any suggestions for a future article on this topic, my ears are always open. Happy exploring!

Update on Montecito Bay

By Bixyl Shuftan

A few weeks after the disaster that wrecked the southeast corner of Montecito Bay, the affected area is getting closer to being back to normal. The majority of the rubble has been cleaned up, and the rebuilding will presumably begin shortly.

The cause of the disaster remains unclear, and other than what appeared to be a photograph with a flying saucer in the corner, no other evidence has been forthcoming. The city will only say investigations are continuing.

But it's not just in the southeast that the repairs are being done. A look at the Oceanside Galleria building where in December a strange saucer-shaped craft crashed showed it had been torn down and the steel skeleton for a new building going up. The saucer was on the ground. Although there were still surveillance vehicles around, the first time I dropped by, there didn't seem to be anyone around. On lunch break perhaps?

I got closer to the strange craft, and there didn't seem to be any sign of a cockpit on the damage craft. Either it had been removed, or the craft was a drone of some kind. If the later, was it some kind of military experiment, or something else?

I took a quick peek inside one of the surveillance vehicles in which the door was left open. But there was no information out in the open and the computers were locked. There was still some rubble that was around the building, but I didn't pay much attention to it, at first.

Taking a few pictures, and showing them to local resident Moff, he thanked me, saying this was more than the authorities investigating the craft were telling him. Gin Ghostraven, who was nearby, told me he got close enough to take some pictures. He showed me a picture of the rubble from a different angle, and there was a car with what looked like a hand sticking out. What looked a little like a body could be seen inside. Curious, I went back for a closer look.

The result was the most startling thing I'd seen in my Montecito Bay investigations since the slime monsters. Inside the wrecked car was what looked like a body all right. But it was neither human or furry. It was a bald, green-skinned humanoid in a space suit with three fingers per hand. But this time, the place wasn't quite empty as I thought I heard shouts to get away. Deciding discretion was the better part of valor when it came to UFO crash sites and investigators, I made my exit.

What the clues gathered point to is obvious. But big claims require big proof. The UFO and the "body," the latter of which could easily have been a mannequin of some kind, are in the hands of Federal investigators and the military. And they frankly aren't talking. If it's a military experiment, why would they be trying a design that a few decades ago had failed? It's possible this was some rich man's prank that went awry when it crashed. And neither explanation covers the "street circles" and the Groundhog Day incident.

Presumably what happens next is rebuilding. There's already a "Flying Pickle Park" at Montecito Bay (171/30/24) which leads to the humorously-themed club of Sheba Metaluna. And with the big piece of evidence down from the old Galleria, it will likely be gone soon as well as the body (or mannequin). And with them the chance for the town authorities for solid answers. But as it doesn't seem to take long for something else weird to happen around here, it's likely the town will move on and residents can pick and choose from the official exploration, and that made from the few clues gathered from townsfolk and media.

Stay tuned for further details.

Note: The preceding is a fun article based on goings-on by the people of Montecito Bay themselves and not the actions of any griefer.
