The Magic Of Trance Club : A Club for Trance Lovers !

By Wesley Regenbogen

The Magic of Trance (MOT) Club is an open air club, which only plays trance music. The club was created by Maluyy Resident in December 2012. It was always Maluyy’s dream to create a place where trance lovers would unite and enjoy the best trance music out there. Her goal was to create a “trance family” and a community of trance lovers all around Second Life.
There are always live DJs that will play in the club. They have a group called “Magic Of Trance Gang”, so Trance Lovers will enjoy this group and get notified when there is an event or something going on. The “Trance Lovers” group is also a group created by the owner. The “Magic Of Trance Gang” group has 2000 members and the “Trance Lovers” group has 1000 members at the moment of writing. Aside the in-world group, they also have a Facebook group and page and there are boards in the club that announce an event too.
The club gets an average visitor traffic between 17.000 and 20.000 visitors a day and they aren’t open 24/7 yet. Maluyy Resident thinks this is a victory, because they aren’t a generic music club, but a specific music genre.
On Friday February 13th, 2015 there was a Valentine’s Day event, where 12 DJs  played 12 hours with the best trance music. They are also going to support the “SLuminosity Beach Festival 2015”, created in SL by DJ Dave Cold. It will be 70 DJs and 4 stages, a great Trance Event. It will be held during the period 10-12th April 2015. MOT Club will support it because they are a Trance Community without any barriers.
Personally, I like this trance club a lot, because it has the best trance music and the fact that the club is also streamed live through the internet, through their website. So, maybe we could meet up in the club some day and enjoy the club together.
My favorite club list has grown once again. But that’s because there are great clubs in Second Life that I happen to find everytime.
You can find the MOT club at this location :
Their website can be found at: http://www.magicoftrance.com/ . You can listen to the livestream from the website too ! Or you can add it to your webradio software program and play it from there.
* * * * *
On another note, some sad news about “Club Transation” which I reviewed a while ago. The owner notified me that the club has been closed, due to real-life problems, the owner told me. He also closed down the group which came along with the club.
It’s sad to see a club go away, but I hope the owner goes well now in real life. I liked this club very much and when I visited, I always had fun and enjoyed the music.
Goodbye Club Transation !

"Air" at LEA 27

By Gemma Cleanslate

“Without music life would be a mistake”:....."there are no facts only interpretation,”  admonitions you hear at LEA Air by FreeWee Ling on LEA 27. This region will be ongoing and changing until May. I found it both an experience and a real education.

There is an eclectic collection of areas. In one place I wandered through a gateway into a tunnel passing  by a bloody giant monster raging bull and through a bone yard to find myself at a Greek temple. Outside there stood a Greek Chorus where I heard the above quotation among others. Inside there is a collection of ancient art pieces of Greece and some lovely sculptures.  I found the one of my favorite sites there is the Theatrum Instrumentorium. This is  a wonderful collection of information about many superb instruments that will rezz for you in front of a picture and give you an information card to explain the history behind it. Some may be fictional ,some real but you will learn so much with each card. I found it absolutely fascinating.

I moved from that museum on up a winding slope to find a massive statue named Liberty chained which I found rather ominous. I passed up a ramp to the roof of a building where I became part of an shimmering globe and part of a story. I will leave it at that.

Freewee says of herself in a statement, “I'm not really (an) artist. More like a  kid in God's Legoland. I'm an idea manipulator.  A conceptual cubist. Most of my work is clearly derivative. I see something interesting and I want to know how it works, so I deconstruct or reconstruct the idea or combine it with some tangential idea to make something new. I am often working on some random project with no particular purpose in mind.”

I have seen Freewee’s work at many events and places  and always appreciate it. I plan on making return visits to see the additions and changes and it sounds like there will be many. I have been there three times so far and finding new things to look at and interact I found a chameleon flyer to ride this morning. This region is right next to the Madtone by Lorin Tone,  also so full of instruments and fun.  http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/LEA27/38/105/27

New Toulouse

By Fritter Enzyme

Lafitte's Old Primsmith Bar is just one of my favorite places at New Toulouse.  Described as:  “Home of Mama Cree's Freebies, All Full Perm - The oldest structure in New Toulouse!  Refurbished a few times, but it was here first! Stop by and drown your sim-blues in prim-booze.” It is the type of place I was hoping to find in New Toulouse.  The environment is with the trimmings and music of the era in the flavor of Second Life.  Tarot cards on the bar really work, with instructions for you to learn from.  You are reminded not to drop your cigarette butts on the floor as they may burn the hands and knees of the other customers as they leave.

I ran into Henri Godenot, the Mayor of the city and owner of the sim there.  He welcomes all to come to Toulouse to explore the city and bayou as well.  It is nice to have an official welcome extended to all.
New Toulouse is based on New Orleans, circa 1900-1925.  The buildings show it, and music everywhere is jazz, blues and zydeco.

In the old time cemetery you can find tombs, all above ground, as it truly is there.  One is for you to leave your current worries.  It is called the Catharsis Laval. Open the tomb, and touch the floor and type in your worry.  Close the door and leave it behind you.  The grave yard by itself is a beautiful and unique experience.  Lots can be rented, if available to set up a mausoleum as creative as you are.   Included is a tomb dedicated to Miss Ing Inventory:  The Lab giveth, the Lab taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lab.

Street cars (one named Desire) run through the streets to give you a ride or tour of the city.  Art galleries offer proper vintage posters and art for your home in New Toulouse, which, of course does offer rentals for homes and businesses.  The homes can be a simple apartment or a Victorian house.  Architecture is one of the best features of the city.  Hanging plants, balconies, and pony mounts are everywhere.  Silent movies of the era are at the Bijou Impromptu.  It is near the Beth Shalom Synagogue.

Another favorite of mine is a second hand store called Look What the Cat Dragged in. They gave grab bags in the back room, and all products are delivered by a cat with a bag in its mouth.  Speaking of cats, they are all over the city, many at Miss KK's cathouse.  This is a home for abandoned cats, not what you might think as a ‘cat house.’  It is by Skye Qi Vintage Apparel Emporium. Which is a fine place to find your outfits for this sim.  Sadly lacking in much for males, but this seems so true for most of Second Life.

But now, a trip to the bayou.  Land of swamps and alligators.  Bridges and boats will bring you around in this land.  Many residential areas are here, but then you will find places to shop and rest, or drink… same thing.  Watch for the gators here.  Things are very rustic and rural. Broken windows and river rats are the norm.  Private areas are here, and armadillos too.  Club houses exist as well as great swamp nature to see.

Voodoo, and spirituality are everywhere in both sims.  You can make appointments to get your fortune read at many places.  Even participate in reading them yourself.  Houses range from boats to shacks to nice dwellings, but all have that touch of age, and of the damage of the bayou.  You may find modern music here on some private lands, but all seems open and worth seeing.  The homes all seem very accessible here.  One last word.  There is a newspaper here, the Tattler.  It has gossip, events, and a lot of silliness worth seeing.

France Portnawak

By Fritter Enzyme

Delicious with pastel colors, and dreamy with semi -transparent furniture, the France Portnawak sim is the cream de la cream of romantic places.  Captured in a daylight setting, it is a painting to walk through.  Cats, rabbits, goats, donkeys and birds are about the many places with animated settings for snuggling and romance.  Picnic spots, horse rides, boat rides all available to meet your fancy.

Bring your Second Life camera, for in this unique world of soft play with colors and light, you should surely find your artistic muse.   Ethereal ambient music streams in this little piece of French countryside.  Hang out in the maison, or home and paint, wash up at an animated sink or lounge and snuggle in a soft bed.  The transparency extends to the rocks in the water and trunks of the trees.  Cotton candy clouds roll through the azure skies ever changing the scene.

You might want to use a translator, English is not the main language.  But beauty is universal and you will enjoy finding the ‘sweet spots’ here.  There are many boats and inner tubes to spend time on enjoying the reflective water fronts and the fishies there in.  The bamboo grove have a nice dock feature where you can rest in some of the many types of law furniture they have out, or the blankets.  Change your windlight's settings and enjoy the many candles surrounding the sitting areas.  It is truly a meditative place to come to and a real treat for Valentine’s Day lovers.

Teleport up to the gift shop.  It has many well-made clothes in French style and has equal amounts of clothes for men as for women, something I find very rare in Second Life.  Grab some free outfits and get in fashion for your explorations.  Yes, I did say free.  One side is gifts the other is a shop with great items you will not see elsewhere.

Take a trip to the lighthouse island and absorb the scenery from there.  But sure to find the fine arts museum!  It is a very nice setting to see some great works.  Agence de Voyages has a link there, it is a Second Life travel agency,  All text is in French, unfortunately for me and my limited language, but it shows many interesting French places to go see when you are done with France Parnawak.

Bring some virtual wine and some brie to snack on for your fireside fun.  Pounce on it now, you never know how long sims will last in our world.

Ville de Coeur

By Wesley Regenbogen

The “Ville de Coeur” sim was created in 2008. It was originally part of the “Duché de Coeur” sim. But they separated themselves from it in early December 2014. “Duché de Coeur” focused on the late 18th Century and and early 19th Century scenery. "Ville" changed into present day scenery in October 2014. It is owned, and was designed, by Ayla Guisse and Bedrich Panacek.

They also have a horse carriage system in place that will bring you to the different regions of the sim. I have tested that out and I must admit it’s a cool way of transporting your avatar through the sim. The village also offers bicycles built for singles as well as couples for visitors and they even have rezzable horses to explore the sim. Besides the carriages system they also have a rowboat system in place to float around in sim. The water around has a “flow” in it and the current will carry the boats through the locks designed to represent those at the “Canal du Midi”. There you can also find easy to use sailboats.

The Bibliotheque is run and operated by by Farzaneh Eel. The music which is played within the sim is adult contemporary in most regions of the sim. But they also play these musical genres : Blues, Jazz, and instrumental movie and classical music. They try to bring live singers to the place as wel, including : Thera D, Abygail Hastings, and many others. They also hold special music presentations every few weeks. Last November 15th, 2014 there was a “Blues Festival” which took place at the “La Place des Lumieres” place in the sim, just before their separation from the "Duche" sim. A Venetian festival will be held on February 15th, 2015 and also Phil Setner will perform on February 17th, 2015.

Ayla and Bedrich also designed the upcoming region Coeur D’Azur, the newest region that will be opened to the public on Valentine’s Day ( February 14th, 2015 ). When the new “Coeur D’Azur” region is opened at Valentine’s Day there will be a Michael Bublé Tribute Show at Noon SLT. Ayla also added a winter themed sim. She is currently working on the “spring” themed sim as we speak.
They have the group called “Ville de Coeur” where they notify members about the upcoming events and they also have a website which can be found at http://www.coeurvirtualworlds.com .
A video shows aerial shots of the village :
In my personal opinion, this place is the perfect spot for you love birds to celebrate Valentine’s Day together. But nevertheless, it’s a nice place to explore and have a look around.
There are a few landmarks for this sim :
Coeur Info Center for visitors :
Citadel Gardens :
La Place des Lumieres ( place where the video is taken ) :

Club Infinity

By Wesley Regenbogen

Club Infinity is bizarre. It’s advertised through the Bloodlines site, but it’s not a vampire based club, but i. They are Bloodlines friendly and they have a Bloodlines haunt set up to draw in visitors.
Club Infinity gives a free reign for artistic music talents. During the weekends they focus on playing Electronica. During the week they focus on playing play Classic Rock, Pop, Top 40, Country, Rock and Roll, Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, Electronica, and more. They also have live DJs that play in the club.
They also operate a a BWA phase system for those ravers out there. That phase system syncs up the clubs color-changing properties with certain accessories that club people can wear. That way the club and the what the people are wearing change color at the same time. The club has some nice seats where you can relax if you want to stop dancing. What’s more is that there is a pillar in the middle with “iStyle” on it, whatever that means, and above it is a sphere thing, that’s a dance ball and near the DJ booth, there is also such a sphere thing that you can use to start your avatar to dance.
They organize contests throughout the week. For this and other information about the club, you can join the group and get daily information and there are also searchable through the Second Life Search pages and also through the Bloodlines website. They have many groups, are listed in SL Events and Bloodlines Events. There is no Facebook page, apparently.
The club was created and decorated by Analemma Faerye and opened in October 2013.
In my personal opinion : Yet another club to add to my club listing. Although I’m not a vampire in Second Life, I like this club because it has a nice interior and the music is very good. I already joined the group to keep myself up-to-date on the events that could be coming soon.
Every club I find has something special, it seems. This club has pillars that are formed by water and below the pillars there is a thing where the water stays in. Very cool feature, if you ask me. Never seen it in other clubs before.
And the Club Infinity logo is also special, because it’s a cool design.
The fact that they have Bloodlines linked to them, well, it's kinda weird. But, hey, we are not vampires, so, we don’t have to worry, right?
I mean it, really, stop laughing.

Winter Wonderland: Four Sims Full of Fun

By Gemma Cleanslate

I just happened to give a call to my friend Marianne Mccann to ask a question. Where was she? Having a great time in Winter Wonderland 2015! I rushed right over . The Linden Lab opened these four sims on Thursday January 29 and I am glad I found out. I have been looking for more winter sport places lately and this is an ultimate  that you won’t want to miss. When I arrived I was invited to accept an experience and you will have to do that to enjoy all the gadgets in the sims. Patch Linden was hanging out there and so was Keira Linden acting as a greeter, checking to see if I had accepted the experience.

The little village is a delightful build and you will find many presents there in the gazebo. Heading out into the country side I followed the signs to the skating arena first and took some spins around the ice. At the end of a road in the village I noticed that there are fireworks on the hour every hour . Then I headed over to the snowmobile  rezzer and accidently hopped on one being driven by Kono Mole who took me for a wild ride on the slopes and then abandoned me in a snow pile to move on. I rezzed one myself to try it out and it is really a wild ride. There is a snowboard rezzer if you want that experience instead. The track is long and harrowing.

I ran into a snowball fight going on in that area and rezzed a weapon to get in on the action. Great fun! It reminded me of the vigorous snowball fights we used to have with the Lindens every year and hopes I can be there when they are in that area. I made my way back into the village where Abnor Mole was entertaining every one with violin solos . Lovely music for a lovely setting. Jo Yardley also played some flute solos before she left to go back to Berlin. The place was full of Moles and Lindens checking out everything and having fun trying out the vehicles . There is a huge snowman standing watch over the sims.  The winter ferris  wheel nearby  is a ride not to be missed! Solo and couple seats raise you high into the air where you get a terrific view of the sims.

For premium members, before you go to the wonderland stop over at a premium kiosk and pick up the big gift box there . Inside with other goodies you will find a hud and a token. Wear both when you are on the sims and you will be offered chances for premium choices.  Everyone is invited to vist and enjoy the winter fun! So glad the Lindens did this to round out the winter season! Many of the gorgeous places I wrote about in December have closed for the season . I have not finished the complete tour of the sims yet and will be revisiting.

The Chamber

By Fritter Enzyme

The Chamber is one of the real treasures to find in Second Life.  It is wonderful to see, and give literature a place in a virtual world to live.  What a hallucinogenic thing reading is. You stare at paper for hours and you see worlds that don’t exist and beings you get to know firsthand.  At the Chamber you get notecards with the emphasis on poetry and short stories.  This includes works by residents in Second Life.

There are many great places to hang out and read.  Three levels, including the Green House, which the owner may have the teleporter shut off for sometimes. The other two levels house some beautiful magical places to read your short stories.  Different authors have bookshelves you click on to get a menu and pick your story.  The landing point is an "Alice in Wonderland" setting, complete with tea cup chandelier and toadstools to sit on.  Click the table to sit and change your chairs and animations.

Four reading rooms radiate off a creative central hub.  Going counter clockwise you will find one with a constant thunderstorm.  Umbrella holder is to your right as you enter.  Be sure to move close to the bookshelves, as the rain will be between you and them causing you not to get notecards.  Pick a card and have a seat in the boat.  Fifteen positions for singles.  Couples animations too.  The rooms are themed to the literature offered in them.  Even a creepy one for Edgar Allen Poe, Superstitions, Horror and Demonology.  Water does seem to be most everywhere.  Click on things to find what they do, many are scripted for you.

Leo Tolstoy’s works have a room all to themselves of urban decay, and a head on a pole.  Each of the lower rooms house only one writers works, save the ones done my Second Life residents.  There is a Mahjong game you can really play, so bring a friend to spend some great time with.  The furniture has many animations for couples or singles, and props for your avatar to use while you hang out and meet other book lovers.  It is quite a wonderfully made place to which photography is natural.  It is as magical as reading it self surely is.

Storm Septimus is its creator and owner.  You are welcome to all floors most of the time.  If you are homeless and join the group, this could be your home sweet home.  Join and set home here.  So read some poems and short stories, better yet, write your own works and bring them into the Chamber to submit them for others to see.  The tip jar is the white cat under the desk, remember to support the places you love in Second Life.  Someone is always paying for what you see and enjoy.  Every little bit adds up.

Club Transation

By Wesley Regenbogen

About a month ago, Fin Silversmith & Hardrain Tigerpaw created a club called “Club Transation." This club plays Trance, Electro, Dance and Techno music and they have DJs that play in the club most of the day.
Sometimes they have an event, like for example Christmas or Valentine’s Day or another event in real life and they decorate the club accordingly. Hardrain Tigerpaw created the decorations in the club, and this person did quite a nice job, in fact. Fin Silversmith runs the club.
What makes this club special is that it’s located below a clothes shop, which offers male and female clothes for every occasion. It specializes in bridal clothing, but on demand, the tailor makes clothes for anyone. This is quite unique, because I haven’t found a club and a shop in one place. The Quest Qlub had shops and rental areas too, but not above or below each other. It's an interesting concept to see that both places are merged together, creating a unique place. Hardrain Tigerpaw owns and runs the shop.
The shop is nicely decorated and you can walk around and buy from within the shop, but they also have Second Life Marketplace site where you can buy clothing from too. So, this means that you can visit the club and when you are done partying, you can visit the shop and buy some new clothes, if you want to.
The club holds a photo contest where residents can win a L$ 2500 gift voucher and also L$ 500 for the best club photo of themselves and their friends.
The Club Transation group has 58 staff members and 57 VIPs at the moment of writing. They don’t have a website nor a Facebook page, but it’s “under construction” the owner told me. You can find the club through Second Life Search and their events are listed on the Linden Lab Events page and they have a group as well. But you can also just visit the club and ask the staff for more information about the club.
I hope you enjoy your stay in Club Transation and we can meet there sometime, another nice club that I can add to my list of clubs to visit, it’s a large list if you check my previous articles. Since it’s a new club which has been opened since begin of January, it deserves a visit.
You can find Club Transation at this location :

Antiochia: A Sim and a Scholarship Trust

By Bixyl Shuftan

Earlier this month, the Antiochia sim officially opened. The sim is named after the ancient city of the same name, founded as a Greek colony, and thrived during Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine times despite being hit with earthquakes. There are a number of builds representing structures of the historic city around, which one can walk about and explore.

The sim is backed by the Antiochia Scholarships Trust, of which the staff of it's group there arranges events for students coming to Second Life through them. The landmark I was given led to the Porta Aurea, or "Golden Gate," of which a couple prim guards stood by. There were people nearby, so I headed over to the info center to the east. It was there I ran into the one who had invited me over, Alex Olteanu (alexolteanu.unplugged). His display name is the same as his real-life name. He welcomed me to the sim and offered to show me around. Alex explained that Antiochia was founded by Seleucus, one of Alexander's generals. It would become the capital of his empire, which was the easternmost and largest of the post-Alexander Hellenic kingdoms.

We headed back to the Porta Aurea. Looking around, I found a level that when pressed opened a door to a secret stairway leading down. In the room underneath, there were three maps on the wall, representing the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East during the Alexander the Great's campaigns, the Hellenic kingdoms that followed, and the Roman Empire around the fourth century, split into Western and Eastern halves, of which Antiochia would be part of the Eastern, which would later become the Byzantine Empire (the name would be given to them by scholars as they continued to call themselves Romans). On another wall was a painting of the city, "That's how it looked at it's height." On a third wall was a door to a tomb.

Opening it led to a build of Alexander's Tomb, "reproduced exactly in accordance with the old historians accounts." The place was a mixture of Greek and Ancient Egyptian influences, with both hieroglyphics and Greek murals. Alexander's body was still in his Greek armor, "He declared himself to be the son of Ra, and was buried in Alexandria Egypt, but he remained Greek (laughter)."

Olteanu explained, "What we tried to do here, contrary to most other historical sims, is not to have a monoculture like Roma. I love Roma, but its not reality. Each place has layers of history, multiple waves, one after theo ther. So here, we have Phoenician ruins, a Greek port, a Roman center, and a Byzantine fortress wiith Arab influences. The time of this build is 600 AD, Justinian's time, just before the Arab conquests. So we have some Arabic mosaics, but no Islamic theme. Because there was no Islam yet (laughter)."

We then headed to the Byzantine fortress, the main part of the sim, "the bridge is an exact replica of the Alcantara bridge in Spain." Around the place are occasional white circles with the letter "i" surrounded by blue. Clicking them will get you a notecard with some information about an object it's on or near. Getting inside the citadel walls, Olteanu told me, "this is the heart of the sim, the Acropolis." He pointed to the cathedral. Unlike those made later in Western Europe, this was a structure topped with golden domes, "the Cathedral is a take on Hagia Sophia in Constantinople. ... The coupola is really special." Inside, the "Redemption Cathedral," as it was called in the notecard, was decorated with a number of early Christian murals. The notecard explained the cathedral "attempts to re-create the feel and atmosphere of the Haga Sophia Cathedral in Constantinople," only one of them having been done there. The rest were from various buildings in Ravenna, Rome, Sinai, Grad, and another church in Constantinople. It is listed as "the most surviving work of Byzantine architecture" there. It was finished in 537 AD.

Olteanu told me, "below we have a cistern than still exists today." He pressed a door-shaped mural, and a secret passage was revealed. It led to stairs that went down to where the fresh water was stored, "the water from the aqueduct comes here." Going back up, he made a turn in a different direction, "and here is a secret passage back to the entrance." Going through a false wall led to a secret door that led back outside. "The other major building is the Magnaura," Olteanu pointed to a domed brick-colored building next to a park area, "the political center. It is also from Constaniople. It no longer exists today, but this is what it would have looked like. This is where we meet and govern the sim. *chuckle* "

Nearby was the Antiochia School and Trust Square, which had a mosaic pattern floor, a display screen on the higher wall, and seats on the side opposite it. In the middle of the floor was a water fountain.  There, Olteanu asked, "Lets go sit and chat a bit so i can tell you why this (the sim) is here." So we sat down, and he explained, "So I am a lawyer and a Business Management teacher by profession. Two years ago, I spent a year in Erbil Iraq teaching, and met a huge diversity of students, ethnically and religious, especially a lot of Christians. They all were eager to learn English and study abroad, especially in Canada where I am from. When I returned to Vancouver, I set up the Antiochia Scholarships trust. I named it after Antochia because it was such a multicultural diverse and cultured city. AST helps students from the Greater Middle East to realize their dream to study at universities in Canada. We pair students with universities and donors so they can come to study.

"I had experienced Second Life before. I created Al Andalus in 2008 with Rose Springvale, and I knew the potential of the platform. So we are using Second Life and this sim to create a virtual community of students before they arrive, help them improve their English and leadership skills and get ready for Canada. So this is fully integrated into our real life project and provides a unique platform that other media cannot do in a historical environment, which makes it both fun and educational. We have other partner institutions with their own projects, like Kelmen College across the river. So we are not in the business of renting land, but finding the right partners to develop synergies to promote Education - Creativity Citizenship and Diversity. That's the short version of it." He then chuckled a bit.

I asked, "How much experience with computers do your students usually have?" Alex answered,

"Quite a bit," Olteanu answered, "We have IT majors for example. But it is a steep learning curve to join Second Life. So we are training a few students to be a welcoming committee,  to provide support for those who will join later, and make is as easy as possible."

"The place looks very interesting and detailed," I told him and asked, "How long did it take to design and build it?

"Two months," he answered, "The Main architect is Alexia Carnell. She owns the Time Machine Studio in Second Life and is specialist in antiquity. The landscaper is Butterfly Summers, and the Terraformer is Bagheera Kristan. We starred on Oct 22 and finished on Jan 4. (There are) still some details and content to do, but its essentially done."

"The two main ideas I'd like you to remember if possible.  1. We use Second Life as an integral part of a real-life project to help real-life students pursue their education from the Middle East in Canada.  2. We have here a multi-layered cultural landscape trying to represent the reality of cultural diversity and hybridization that exists in the Middle East from Phoenician ruins to Greek ports to Roman aqueducts to Byzantine cathedrals and Arabic baths and squares. And water is the theme that brings it all together from the sources in the mountains and rivers and cistern to the aqueduct and ports and sea. It gives it a unity and coherence across time and space."

I then asked, "Are recent events complicating getting the students over?"

"Yes and no," Olteanu responded, "Yes because there are careful checks. But Canada is welcoming students from abroad, including the Middle East. So its much easier than in other countries, and they are already admitted by universities. So they are clearly students qualified to study here. A lot are Christian, not just Muslim."

My next question was, "So they already have the attention of universities and colleges?"

"Yes, "he answered, "We are partnering up with a number of Canadian universities. You can find out more information on the website of the real-life Antiochia School and Trust." He then displayed it as http://home.antiochiatrust.org . The website includes a page about it's location in Second Life. The main webpage has a youtube of Alex Olteanu speaking about his vision for his organization. In the recent past, Alex has also been a news announcer for Rompost, a Romanian language television show in Vancouver.

Antiochia officially opened on Sunday January 12. For over twelve hours from 10AM to after 10PM, there were various events, from singers such as Maximillion Kleene, speakers such as the noted Gwyneth Llewelyn, who talked about developing governmental participation in Second Life, and Alex Olteanu himself talked about his vision of helping Middle Eastern students. The SL Enquirer wrote about the event in an article (here).

There was more on the sim to explore. Later on I found a rideable horse that one could mount and go about on. I still have yet to visit the lighthouse, Posiden's Temple, the port and harbor, and a number of other places here.

More Winter Areas

By Gemma Cleanslate

I was headed over to take a final look at Noel region of the Calas regions yesterday, but was distracted and never got there! Too bad because all the Calas sims will be closed for the month of January for rebuilding. So I will miss that and all the skating and cross country skiing. But there is a good reason so will look forward to a February reopening.  http://calasgaladhon.com/2014/12/27/change-in-the-new-year/

In the meantime while checking out the skating areas, I have been doing some down hill skiing. I have visited a couple of places that I have not had time to get to in the very busy month of December. There are several I would recommend to you where you are able to pick up free skiis if you need them.

Lake Tahoe has a wonderful winter region with a small skating pond but a wonderful skiing area. You can buy skiing outfits, skiboards , or just use the free ones provided. Next to the comfy lodge there is a snow mobile rezzer that allows you to zoom around the area and up and down the hills, or, crash as I did. The ski lift takes you up to the top of the mountain and here you have a choice of sledding, snow tubing, snow boarding, or skiing down the slopes. Good luck on completing the slalom without missing any gates. If you join the group, there is a cute cabin up there can use. Or use the lodge where you can meet with friends.  It is a lovely area that is always open for visitors all year round in case you feel the need for snow and winter sights in July.  http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Grand%20Canyon%20North/35/208/22

Another area that can be depended on for winter all the time is the Wengen ski lift area. If you look at the big map when you get there, you will see the nearby sim that are winter all the time. Across the road is the Linden Lodge infohub. This ski lift is one of the longest or highest I have see in Second Life. It takes you into several sims before dropping you at the top of the mountain. The view is lovely from here if you extend your draw line.  Free skis are available and you have choices of how to descend these very steep slopes, on a guided route, or on your own. Back near the other side of the Linden Lodge there is another ski lift that will route you through several other sims to another high alpine slope. I opted for sledding down this one.

At the bottom I found myself at the wonderful, very large Lake Zermatt where I exchanged my skis for skates to roam around and then make my way back to the Linden Lodge where I found champagne waiting for me. There is a small frozen pond in front of the lodge too. Hold this landmark because when you feel like visiting a snowy area you will have it. This is one of the first areas I visited in Second Life almost 8 years ago. It is still here because it is all owned by the Linden department of Public Works and various parts.  You can also take one of the ONSR rail cars and explore the abutting roadways of the area. There is a map at the station between the chair lift and the lodge. Cars come and go at various times.

Have a great time!!  Both Regions are spectacular skiing opportunities! Dress warmly.

Phaze Demesnes to Close

By Bixyl Shuftan

It was a few days ago when Bay Sweetwater announced that the Phaze Demesnes sim would soon be closing down. Wondering what the place was like, especially as some of the goods it offered were now for free, I headed over to see what I could find.

Although the provided landmark for Phaze Demesnes (217/207/23) was for the northeast, I ended up in the middle of the sim instead, which was a better starting point in retrospect. I was handed a notecard with several locations. The next thing I noticed was a group of pigeons that would take off when I approached, then landed back down. Right next to me was a dock where a whale would occasionally stop and wait for a passenger. Getting on, I was taken for a ride through the river. Most of the trip was underwater, so in real life such a trip would have meant holding one's breath for a while. I didn't have my view focused on my avatar when the critter took off, so I ended up going into first-person mode, which showed quite a ride.

Not far away to the northeast was the castle, described in the notecard as "the home of the Blue Adept and the Lady Blue." Outside it looked well done. On the inside, it looked quite exquisite, with many decorations and furnishings around. In the center of the place was a cuddle couch. There was also a freebie painting there (if there were others, I missed them). Further in was a wedding chapel, as well as a dungeon, though I never did venture down to see them. I never did see the free teddy bears described in the notecard.

Leaving the castle and walking on to Dragons Isle, I never did find the freebie dragons described in the notecard. What I did find was a few figures, including a stone fighter, an ogre-like being, and something demonic, around a portal entrance. This led to an area with a red floor with a pentagram etched in. One is invited to pick up a sword and shield, either green or blue. Whether or not you do, demons soon appear, with one set up numbers representing your health, and another for theirs. They head to you, and every time you whack them, their health goes down while the number for your health drops when they touch you. When theirs reaches zero, they vanish and after the last one disappears another round with more monsters begins. If yours reaches zero, the game ends. I didn't do too badly when I fought one at a time. But soon they were coming at me two at a time, so I tried to keep away from one while fighting the other. Three at a time, and it was soon game over. Maybe they didn't like losing to a mouse avatar dressed up in Christmas red and green (grin).

The notecard described a "silversmith game" underneath the castle, so I used the landmark provided, and arrived at a smithing area, with an anvil and tools along with a few silver objects on the counter. It turned out this was a puzzle, and one had to click on things and do a few actions in a certain order. The reward was a box of goodies that contained vases, bracelets, cloaks and a silk, and other items.

There was an underwater dome, "Translucent Demesnes:  a beautiful underwater world ruled by the Translucent Adept." Getting there, one had to figure out how to get inside. While drowning was not a worry, one is warned about hungry sharks and piranha in the vicinity. To those who figure out how to get in, they're invited to sit on the throne.

Other places included the Proton Dome, "a science world full of unique free items," where the notecard stated one could pick up a free translator and "free birds that perch on your arm, fly with you, and live in your homes and gardens." There was also a fairy area described with a magic potion game and a unicorn ride. Another area had free equine mounts, as well as free coats.

The sim was created by Ferd Frederix (Fred Beckhusen) and Wavingirlsav Voom (Debbie Edwards). For those who wish to keep up with their work, they will be soon opening their own place in Opensim. They also have a blog at http://www.outworldz.com/secondlife/ (caution, some nudity and language).
